ZERO

Zero is the Arabic notation for the absence of quantity, the origin of any kind of measurement…

At the age of 26 I have reached an idea of the quality I am capable of. Now, through this understanding, I will begin to produce work of substance. I will create, capture and amass a quantity of work that shall be my legacy. I have begun to operate with full intention. Gone are the days of the haphazard.

ZERO

It is the point where all great things begin. Today is April 16, my personal new year, my annual starting point. It is the day I choose to launch my new blog Bunni Says, where I will share articles and commentary on the world we all inhabit.

Out of the 360 degrees we know of, I have discovered my point of view, my personal zero, on this grand scale of life. It is from here that I shall write. Zero is the place between the negative and positive realms of reality. I am neither for or against. My view will always be zero, though my place may shift. I will never be on the right or left because my view on life is not linear, but circular.

I see in time, that is to say I see in history. A moment is rarely significant on its own and context can help guide understanding and provide us with deeper insight. I am always striving for deeper understanding.

I hope to grow as a writer as I populate my weekly web column. I start it because it is the medium available to me, but I hope to grow in influence across platforms and outlets. I am a journalist and all my efforts will be to realize my ability in words, photo and film.

Today, April 16, 2013, I start from zero.

New Blog, New Work

I have announced to the world (my Instagram) that I will be debuting my new blog Bunni Says on my 4.16.13, 26th birthday. I am not quite sure if I have just dug an early grave for myself or not. All I know is that I need to deliver.

But what?

My initial reasons for wanting to start a blog was because I want to showcase my talents in writing, an aspect of my journalistic nature that I have not been exercising since I graduated college in May 2010.

Sure, I’ve written a few rants on this Tumblr, but at this point, it has transformed from being a weekly photo essay from my eye, to an amalgamation of the random post I regurgitate from those I follow. Not exactly innovative stuff!

It is especially disheartening when I randomly peruse job listings I come across for which I have the writing skills, but no recent examples of what I am capable of. NO ONE wants to read 2 year old clips from a college newspaper they never heard about or that feature you did for that one Feature Writing class you took as an undergrad…

I know there is only one way to get work in this new economy: do work. And that is what I intend to do.

Over are the days where one can apply for a job simply on the merit of their degree…
A competitive candidate does work so that people want to work with them, not the other way around. We live in a show and tell type of world and those left looking for handouts while producing nothing will be left out in the cold. I don’t know about you, but I enjoy the heat, so I’ll have to start sparking the embers.

I am honing in on my professional being. I have always been about doing with a concentrated effort toward success. This endeavor will be no different.

It’s sort of a “if you write it, they will read” type of mentality, though I don’t know how many people read anymore, nor do I care. Words land somewhere.

Now all I have to do is find things I want to write about…

I guess this rant is a start, but I won’t be counting this as it really doesn’t amount to much more then a diary post and a great way to practice typing as I think.

I have points that need proving, innovative people that need interviewing and a world that needs saving, so I won’t be creating just another “this-is-what-I think” web log but a “this-is-what-the-facts show” blog, like a real journalist…

I will pull it off weekly, with the occasional photo essay here and blurb there.

For now, I have less then two months to get my -ish together. That should supply enough time to create an introductory body of work.

I won’t start digging that grave just yet.
